Default Low beam headlights and tail lights won’t turn off

Hi Guys,

I have an Outlander 2015, since yesterday i have noticed that the low beam headlight and tail light wont go off unless i switch off the car completely. Earlier i was able to switch off the light by using the off option in the stick. Wondering if its some issue or or setting which i may have accidentally switched on. Has someone faced a similar situation ?

The Body computer (ETACS) has developed a fault and will need replacing. If your car is in warranty its an easy fix for the dealer to do. If it is outside warranty ask them for a goodwill claim.

Thanks for that. The local dealership have looked at the computer a couple of times. They said there was nothing showing up as wrong. Can I ask how you know the computer is an issue so that I can point to some evidence to support my case? I would really appreciate something that spells out the issue. The car is not long out of warranty. Do you know how much the computer costs? Thanks again.

There is a HOTLINE FIX which comes from MMAL. This is dealer information only, it details the problem with the ETACS and advises them to check another hotline fix which refers to reprogramming the keys afterwards.

It does not say this is a warranty repair, but they might offer goodwill. If your dealer doesnt know about this I would try another one, as they proably dont give a damn about their customers.

So as well as the ETACS you will likely need 2 new keys aswell, as the your current type will not be compatible with the new ETACS.

Sorry i have no idea of prices. Job is likely to take 1.5 to 2.0 hours

Hi mate,
I have same issues and burn out the headlight globes and replaced just now. My local service centre (my car) recommended to contact Mitsubishi but I’m out of warranty . I Would like to know how did you fix your’s and the cost please. Thanks

Unfortunately as my car was (just) out of warranty the local dealership said they'd have to look at the computer with the assistance of someone from Sydney who knew more than they did. This would take a couple of hours and cost three or four hundred dollars. should they find that the relevant ETACS computer was in fault mode, the ETACS unit is over a thousand dollars and then there'd be new keys as well which aren't cheap, so at the moment I am driving with the lights on all the time. I was hoping for a recall but of course, not with my luck.

Thanks mate. It’s like a manufacturing issue which will happen to each and every outlander now or later. I will be sending a complaint to Mitsubishi Australia for a recall or fix it for free and I hope everyone in this group should do the same to avoid the expensive repair for the Mitsubishi’s fault.

The problem is it doesnt happen to more than a few of them. Most outlanders will not suffer with this fault.

If you car is only just out of warranty and has full DEALER service history then you MIGHT be lucky with a goodwill claim
