I want my 2003 Outtie to go further all the time. I have put a full bar on it, and all terrain rubber, which has allowed me to get into some great tracks and mud holes. What I am really looking for is different to what most of the posts here are about. I don't want to go faster, just rougher.

Anyone else tried modding the Gen 1 Outtie for off-road work? Let me know.

Since the car is kind of street performance oriented from the factory, why don't you try taking the swaybars off. Don't go to fast on the exit ramps on your way to the the trail. Don't have your lawyers call me if something goes wrong either - I don't know what I'm talking about

I'm curious about the bar... it looks like it's too high to take initial hits if you don't have enough approach angle (ie. you're underbody panels would still scrape). Is this true?

Have you put any bash plates on the underside?

 

I wonder if there are any skid / blash plate solutions available except from custom work?
I'd like to avoid dirty water from splashing under the hood...

 

I don't think people do off-roading a lot on this vehicles, but i had a lot of fun with mine...

 

The bar has been designed to not only be fully airbag compliant, but the lower section follows the contours of the front underside bumper, so that approach angles have not been affected.

Yes, the underside still scrapes occasionally on steep rampovers, but this isn't a problem.
I would like to get some decent bash-plates made for the underside, as I have come close to destroying the original plastic stuff. It has been held on with bolts now for quite a while. The only time that the plastic comes off now is if I have to reverse on VERY rocky ground, and the back end of the plastic stone guards catch.

I have a bit of checkerplate aluminium sheet lying around at home, but suppose that I have simply been too busy at work lately to bother making a better bash plate. I guess that I will more than likely just get an off-road specialist to make me one.....
