Default mitshibishi outlander2016, 4j11 engine replaced with a 4j12 engine

So just a update, on the engine replacement of the outlander 2016 with a 4j11 2.0 litre motor with a 2017 4j12 2.4 engine. The 2.4 is exactly the same as the 2.0 litre, everything fits on the 2.4 from the 2.0 litre. We pulled the old motor out at about 11:00 am and by 6 pm we had the new second hand engine in . You have to take the front bumper off the car otherwise it will get damaged. The next morning we replaced all the oils in the engine and gearbox as well as coolant, we also had to replace the crank angle sensor that for some reason didnt work and then it started right up. We did not replace the ecu, the 2.4 runs quite happily of the old 2.0 litre ecu so that doesnt seem to be a problem . We paid 800 dollars for the 2.4 with only 52 thousand ks on the clock . The 2.0 litre motors is not that rarely available and if you track one down they are expensive. So all in all it cost about 1300 dollars give or take to do the engine transplant if you can do it yourself, we were quoted 5000 from a garage to do the job.

Great job!

It is amazing (and strange) that 2.4 engine works on ECU from 2.0L engine. What about fuel pump? Have you replaced it too?

Do you feel more performance/faster acceleration etc?

Yes the 2.4 works perfectly with the 2.0 ecu. No need for the fuel pump to be changed. According to the owner its got a little bit more power , I dont know about the acceleration. We used the injectors of the doner engine as well and did not change that at all. It was basically a plug and play . We used the exhaust of the old engine since the new 2.4 didnt come with a exhaust manifold.
