Default Mitsubishi Outlander Brakes

Hello,

I have a question. Recently the 2007-2009 Outlanders had a recall for brake valve boost replacement. After my dealership did a replacement I have noticed that during cold starts when lets say I am coming out of my drive way and gently press the brake pedal there is a loud sound coming out (not squeaking) but only when gently pressed not all the way in (half-pressed I guess). Of course all of this goes away after the car is fully warmed up. Temperatures outside are still rather warm and I don't think it is caused by the cold. I am wondering if this had something to do with brake valve replacement or is this coincident and something else is happening? All I know is that I had this car for almost a year now (2009 Outlander ES 4WD) and this started to happen around summertime when dealership did a recall on it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

EDIT: I read about ABS check but from what I understand with ABS check the sound only comes off once after the start, but in my case everytime I half-press the brake pedal there is a loud sound coming out but again, after the car is fully warmed up it goes away. Again, I don't think this is outside temperature related as its still fall and we dont have any sub-32F temperatures yet.

I have an 08 LS and the sound I hear is like a knock coming from under the driver side dash everytime I slightly press the brake. Before it was on and off issue but lately it happens frequently. Haven't gone to the dealership yet.

Thank you for a quick reply. I guess I am not the only one then. Again, the weird loud sound only happens when I slightly press the brake during cold starts. The sound will be as long as I slightly press the brake pedal, when I fully apply the brake everything is good (no sound) but when I again slightly just press and hold the brake pedal the sound is back. But after the car is warmed up the problem disappears. But the problem is that again, I wouldn't be this concerned if I lived in some sub-zero temperature environment, but the coldest it got here recently is around 45-50F so I don't know what the deal is, can the brake valve have anything to do with this?

Have you been to the dealership yet? What did they say?

I didn't go to dealership yet but I am soon due for an oil change so I'll be there within 2 weeks, but knowing my luck they'll probably say its normal :S Like they did when my transmission started to make a clicking sound (sound that wasn't there when I bought the car brand new but started to happen after 6 months of ownership) whenever you press the brake in Park position.

Default Just so you know,

The clicking noise is nowhere near your transmission. It's on the shift interlock in the center console. It's a small 12volt solenoid that has zero direct connection with your transmission. Even if it failed completely, your transmission is unscathed. Because it is wired to the brake lights doesn't mean your brakes are going to fail either. A small misalignment of the solenoid rod into its socket will make it louder. Maybe annoying but strictly cosmetic.
