Default MMCS: Hard drive free space?

Is there a way to know how much space is left on the hard drive on a 08 XLS outlander with MMCS? i try nav + set and found nothing about free disc space. I just want to figure out how many cd i can put in the music server.

Thanks.

I have not seen any possibility to get the value... I have now around 50 CDs, no problems yet...

..depends on the CDs--the '07 MMCS has a 30GB HDD, 6GB for music...--I have just over 100 CDs loaded, roughly 1100-1200 songs....

If anyone knows the encoging method and bitrate of the mmcs, we can calculate approx the # of cd's we can put in. Bizzare, we can't see how much free space on the disk.

My drive's music partition is full at 108 CDs-- a quick, rough calculation is to use an average of 5MB per track, x 1200 = 6000MB, which is roughly 6GB......

yes---you get a message --something to the effect of "you do not have enough disk space"---and it happens during recording--so the first 3-4 songs get recorded and the rest don't --- I have since removed some CDs and added others--so it has happened a few times. Even if it told you what percentage of disk space you had left, or how many MBs, you would still have to know how many MBs worth of songs you were trying to add. From what I have read on this site, the system uses a *proprietary" type of MP3 encoding--so that is where I based my average 5MB per song from.

I just remove stuff --even individual tracks from some CDs--that I get tired of when I want to add something new-- I like the collection to be somewhat "dynamic" -- changing it up all the time. And so far, the MMCS hasn't seem to had any problems with the data storage--I kind of expected it would start to have issues if I filled it up and then removed various CDs and refilled it--as the files got more fragmented, but I haven't noticed anything yet.

If you are really concerned about knowing exactly where you are at with HDD capacity, you would have to know the exact encoding method, and the headroom required for indexing the playlists etc. The other thing to keep in mind is that CDs can have anywhere from less than 30 minutes to over an hour's worth of music on them. After that, you would then need to google yourself a bit-rate calculator.

But if you are ripping only whole CDs, --start watching once you get up near 100...then decide which tunes you can live without!
