Great post!
It is a good idea to be able to have a cloned HDD in case of MMCS HDD failure.
Is there anyone using a cloned HDD in the MMCS successfully?
Any more info on makes and models of drives being used successfully would certainly be helpful to alot of people, myself included.
Thanks.

I recently migrated MMCS from the standard toshiba 30GB drive to a 64GB SSD Transcend TS64GSSD25-M 64GB SSD MLC 44PIN 2.5 IDE DRIVE!! Everything works ok and Navigation seems to load faster...
You can read more about it at a recent thread of mine...
https://mitsubishiforum.com/forum/sh...ad.php?t=39222

By the way MMCS after cold starup (after reconnecting battery) loads operating system to onboard SDRAM and then only accesses music server/navigation files....
There are several reports that drives of 160GB fail after cold restart which MEANS THAT ON BOARD BIOS MUST ONLY SUPPORT 28BIT LBA WITH MAX CAPACITY OF 128GB SIZE!!!!
'LBA works with a 64-bit sector address, so we can (theoretically) access the staggering amount of 8,796,093,022,208 GB! Due to limitations of the ATA interface, only the lower 28 bits of the LBA address can used by an EIDE drive resulting in a, still formidable, limit of 128 GB'
http://web.inter.nl.net/hcc/J.Steunebrink/bioslim.htm
I doubt that any disk above this limit will work after a cold restart in MMCS....

It would be really useful to list what the function of each partition is.

I am guessing the only partitions we would be interested in are the Music Server and Nav maps partitions.

Perhaps someone could reply with which is which?

Cheers

Please report us about accepted HDD successfully coldbooted !!! It can be done by disconecting acu (battery) for a few minutes or via Menu by pressing SET+NAVI for 5 seconds , taping VERSION INDICATION and pressing key MENU then choosing HDD Load from menu.
HDD fully comptible with MMCS wil reload system and all works quick and fine, music server is not loading every start of MMCS.
I found several kinds HDDs like Fujitsu, Hitachi WD, Samsung which are not cold booting but theay are working with new maps and music server fine, sometimes server is loading every start of MMCS.
The best accepted HDD's for MMCS in my opinion are Toshiba HDDs
