Just got my mudflaps in and noticed they say to put primer on the surface that the doublesided tape goes on.

Uh... sure. I don't want to a) take the time b) put primer on my car, in case I remove them for some reason.

So did you guys use any primer? If not, are they sticking fine without it?

 

Its not a primer like you have in mind. Your thinking of gray spray paint primer. They want you to use a primer to clean any dirt, wax or road tar. This will help the stciky tape hold the flaps onto your car.

 

Ahhh... that's good to hear. I just cleaned with alcohol and they seem to stick very well.

 

Ditto. Cleaning with 91% isopropyl-alcohol seemed sufficient. Installed mine on a pretty hot day too and I've noticed no peeling.[/align]

 

I have the factory mud flaps on my 06.... They work awesome. I drove off pavement pretty much especially when i go to the rally america events. They keep alot of the rock chips from happening......

 

Yea basica rubbing alcohol works. My dad does autobody so we have the real primer. Removes everything on the car and ensures the best stick. The benifits of having an auto body guy in the house.

 

Were you able to find them cheaper somewhere else? IE - USA?? I looked into them in Alberta (Edmonton) through a friend of mine who works for Subaru and his price was still $150. Way too high IMO. Any suggestions?

 

Talk to your parts guy. I went in expecting to pay $170 and got them for $135Cdn. See if they can make a deal. Never hurts to ask. If not:

Even with shipping and GST, they'll come out less than $170.

 

I also just installed front mudflaps to my Outie, didn't use any primerat all. Just gave the car a good wash,making sure all grimes and oils are offthen wipe dry. Blowdrying the area to attach the tapes with a hair dryer also works. Just make the area warm enough (not too hot as to the point of cracking paints) and attach the tapes. Works quite well. Once attached give it another blowdry on the area where the tape is located for stronger adhesion.
