New Outlander owner: Questions

New Outlander owner: Questions
Purchased a 2010 Outlander GT with 36,090 miles last week that was leased before I bought it. When I purchased it it was about 30 degrees outside and I noticed the A/C wouldn't blow very cold. I had the dealer I bought it from inspect it and they said that the compressor won't kick on under a certain temperature. Is this correct? I have an extended 5 year/60,000 bumper to bumper so I'm covered up until near 100,000 miles so if they are pulling my leg I'll just keep taking it back until they fix it. Also wondering if people here prefer to use conventional or synthetic motor oil for the v6? I previously had a 2000 Montero sport limited for 215,000 miles from 2000 until I traded it in for the outlander. Hope to keep the outlander just as long. Thanks for the help.

I assume you mean 30 F, because 30 C would be plenty hot to test the AC.
Yes, I do believe that there is a lower outdoor temperature limit to where the AC will function the way it does in warm weather. (This is certainly the case for refrigerators being operated outdoors.) If 30 F air is already being drawn into the car from outside, that's already pretty cold. I don't think that even a perfectly functioning AC blows air at or below 30 F in normal weather, but I might very well be wrong on that.
I use Mobil 1 synthetic. My friend uses Royal Purple.
Good luck with your new vehicle.
