New 2k3 Outlander owner a few questions
Hello, I have done some searches around here and whatnot and just have a few Q - I have a 03 outlander with 29k miles
I am going to get it a K&N air filter, had one in my old jeep and if it gave me more hp/mpg who knows- but after 30k miles it was still nice... so its price/per use ratio in my book is good in terms of just price let alone any performance upgrade if any is a bonus.
Why does everyone sudgest switching over to fully synthetic oil? what advantage do you get? Also what other options for any little do it yourself upgrades are there out and about?
And what is the largest and or highest tire that you can stick on the outlander- I have I think 16inch stock alloys.
I know there is a recall for some fan controller- my mitsu dealer is going to run my VIN when I call them later- is there anything else they need to look over on it? it has a full extended warrenty on it- basiaclly everything but wear parts (belts, hoses, breaks etc)
- when I turn my car off my fans still run for about 5-7 secs then turn off..that strikes me as odd. sometimes my motor sounds like its made of legos- but I am used to american trucks- my wifes honda sounds the same and its a 05 with only 10k mi....its prolly just how it is.
P.S: this is not realy an outlander q but you all may know- mine came with some aftermarket CD player, I would have perfered stock- but its faceplate comes off for security- its LCD is kinda crappy- can I maybe just buy another faceplate or do I have to get a whole system thing again- and if so- are there any pop up- or 2 bin dvd/nav solutions I can get in my little outlander.

Hi Xadion, welcome to the forum!
Always good to see new members that have the same generation of Outlander as me
I'm also getting a custom air filter, but the urethane foam type... these can't really be cleaned but I don't like to re-oil stuff. I'm gonna to try out all the brands that make these like Pipercross, HKS, Ralliart in the next years.
My motivation is also a little bit more hp / better engine sound / better mpg.
My dealer says semi-synthetic oil will do just fine, but I pay more to get fully synthetic anyway. It's supposed to get less dirty over time, so I'd suppose it should keep your engine cleaner, at least in theory.
By the way, in Europe there is no recall for the fan controller... I asked my dealer but they say there is no problem with the fan controller, it makes a lot of noise when running idle and they define it normal.
I don't have the symptons you describe with your fans still running after turning off the engine, and weird sound of your motor. But I have the MIVEC-engine so that may be all different.
Cheers

If your fan runs when you turn the vehicle off, then there is a problem and will be fixed under recall. Also, the headlights should be replaced if they have stress fractures because there was a recall for that as well. As for the radio, you cant buy a new face plate only a new radio. And i wouldnt waste my time with the K&N
Thanks for all the info
I belive I may have the upgraded sound, as I have 2 small speakers in the upper dask on the door side things, then the 2 in the front doors and the 2 in the back doors. My current pioneer thing seems to only be playing on the front 4 - 2 tweeters 2 door speakers- I was wondering how I would get it back to useing all 6 - my Jeep had infinity sound with the same set up - 2 tweeters 2front bass range- and 2back all range- but it had an amp hidden in the back seat- my outlander is the XLS- but no leather seats (cry)
would your 6 disc in dash be a plug in and play? and would it work with 6 speakers
