Newbie - Outlander 07 and cold starting?
Well first off I found this forum yesterday and have learned a tonne since then!!! This place is great!
I bought an Outlander LS in July 2007 and so far have been very impressed with it. Am glad to see that the throttle lag issue is not just me. I will be getting that fixed the next time I am in a town with a Mitsubishi dealer, thank you to this forum for pointing that one out.
My question is what are people's experience with this vehicle in cold starts? I know it's very new and there may not be many that have had one long enough to have to start their vehicle in winter but for those that have what have you found in terms of how well it starts?
I didn't realize that it didn't have a block heater and that one can't be put in until after buying it. I just assumed it had one, was the first time I bought a vehicle and it wasn't standard equipment. I live in the very northern Canada (Northwest Territories) so cold starting is a norm. The dealer assures me that it is guaranteed to start down to something like -50C, I will definitely have to start it at -45C which without a block heater kinda scares me.
I was thinking of putting an oil pan heater on it to help it out.
Anyhow would love to hear what people's experiences are with this.

It starts right up with no hesitation, I love it! Drives great in the snow too on 4WD. Theres a video around of some dudes being pulled on a snow board by an 07, looks sick..lol.
I'm sure Mitsubishi would have made heaters as standard equipment if it were necessary for cold starting. Heaters being an accessory means it's not needed for the normal operation of the vehicle. I'd say, just follow what the manual say about starting the car in cold weather and you'll be fine. And use the recommended oil too when you do oil changes. I live in an area with subzero temps too, and I never had a problem with cold starting.
