Oil Pressure Warning Question
Hi all,
My question is that the other day when I started driving the oil pressure warning light keeps coming on and beeping. I pulled over and checked the dipstick which said the engine oil was normal. Then I turned on the car again and the warning disappeared for a few minutes and came back on again. I was wondering if anyone knows the problem? Can I still drive the car to Mitsubishi dealer to have it looked at b/c it's like a 30 mile drive.
The car itself is 08 Outlander XLS AWD w/NAVI, etc. with ~1200 miles on it. So I am not sure why I am getting this light indicator. Any imput would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Personally, I would call the dealer before driving.
Low oil pressure is pretty serious and not something to mess around with. The previous poster doesnt realize that it may mean theres oil in the bottom of the engine but there may be none reaching the critical upper part of the engine.
A side note the dipstick is a pain to read.

Since it's new, it has a warranty with roadside assistance. Call them and they will tow it to the dealer. Never drive with oil pressure warnings! Just because you can see oil on the dipstick, doesn't mean the pump is functioning. Oil in the bottom of the engine isn't doing rings, valves or many other systems a bit of good. The warning isdue to low oil pressure...a serious problem. It could be a sensor, but why take the chance.
Thanks for the quick responses.
Is the roadside assistance free with the warranty?
If it is I might as well get it towed. Called the dealership and the guy just told me to drive it down. Obviously it's not his car so he wouldn't care as much.
Thanks.

Are you definately sure itsoilpressure as opposed to a check engine type thing?
Reason I ask is because my mother in law thought she had her oil light on on her Honda CRV - it was the check engine light, and it can often be caused by something as simple as making sure the gas cap is screwed ontightly (make sure it clicks) - seen it on a couple of occasions now on different vehicles.
If it persists after that, take it to the dealer - almost odds on it will be a faulty sensor as opposed to a serious problem. If the dealer told you to drive it in, I'd drive it - you have the warranty anyway.

You should of got a little credit card sized paper with the road side service info on it. I keep one in my car and one in my wallet. But with oil pressure warnings you should stop driving it. It will probly be under warrenty and they will fix everything but do you want the hassle of blowing up the motor and being with out your car for longer?
