Default Outlander 2010 Auto Driving Lights Problem

Hi All

I've recently bought a 2010 Outlander (Aus model) and having a problem with the auto headlights in the car. The driving lights stay on all the time, day and night while driving the car and will only turn off when I turn the car off and open the drivers door.

The driving lights are not daytime running lights (standard on some models), as I've checked the manual, and the fuse box, and have no relays or fuses for them. One of the stalks off the steering column can be switched to manual lights but this still doesn't turn them off and I've ran out of ideas on how to turn them off.

I've taken some photo's of the stalk.

If anyone has been through this or knows how to turn them off, I'm all ears...

Are you saying that in every possible position of the lever your headlights remain on, and that the one and only way to turn them off is to turn the ignition off?

That is not an auto-headlight switch. The auto light switch has Off, Auto, Parking lights, Head lights positions. Maybe there is something wrong with the headlight switch.

Actually, was your car previously a fleet car? I have seen a mention somewhere of some fleet cars (of other brands) with the headlight switches rewired so the headlights work like yours.

Yes and Yes. The lights will only turn off when the ignition is turned off, and doors opened, regardless of where i adjust the light stalk to.

Also, the car was an ex gov. car, and when looking for the fuse box, I noticed that one of the wires had been spliced into.

Maybe it has been purposefully made to run with the lights on at all times? I wonder why...

I would remove the spliced wire and see if that fixes it.

Is someone able to send me a wiring diagram? Last thing I want to do is cut a wire and then have to re-solder it, if I've cut the wrong one

Can you put up a picture of the spliced wires?

I'll try and take one tomorrow to show you...

The wire ran along the length of the dashboard behind the glove box
