Outlander diesel spluttering
Hi All
My mother’s Outlander has developed a fault after driving approximately an hour on a straightish road like a motorway doing about 70mph. It feels like the fuel is not getting through properly and it sort of splutters. No lights come on the dash at any time. I slow the speed and it gets better. On the return journey it does not do this.
I initially thought it was something like a dirty fuel filter so we had that replaced. I made another longer journey and this time, the car started spluttering after 45 minutes. I pulled over as my mechanic had suggested and switched off the engine for five minutes. This did not make any difference so I slowed right down to 40-50mph and it got better. Again on the return journey it was fine whatever the speed.
I took it back to my garage but they say without any lights coming on, the in car computer will not have any record of a fault and they are not sure what it is. Their suggestion is to drive it until it gets worse and actually stops! Obviously that doesn’t sit well with me as it could happen on a motorway or I could be doing damage to the engine!
Any suggestions?

I have no solution, however, on my 2.2DiD I'm used to perform a "small quantity fuel injection learning". This procedure is recommended be done every 2nd year. Yes, mut3 tool is required.
Also i used to add into the fuel tank a diesel injector cleaner. It is an additive which i pour into the tank 2-3 times a year.
The problem might be electrical in nature and temperature dependent. Please check and clean all cable connectors to injectors, fuel pumps, speed/rpm sensor, maf etc.

So sounds like I’ve had the same thing happen driving along and then stutters slightly can happen between 40-70 mph thought it might be something to do with the injectors or fuel line/pump but not sure did any one find out what it could be
