Default Outlander radio

Hi Guys,

I have got a 2008 outlander with the old rockford radio. It does not have the display so I am really missing the reverse camera.

The mmcs-display model is quite expensive-around 800$.

I called a junkyard yesterday and they asked me a question-"are you looking for the touchscreen only or the rockford radio too"

This makes me think that is the radio divided into 2 parts-the radio body and the interface(either touchscreen/old fashioned radio).

Can i just buy the touchscreen and replace it with the old radio head/interface?

Or i will have to buy the whole unit-
the touchscreen and the radio body?

Please help!

I don't have the MMCS but I know it has a hard drive and other things in it that your radio doesn't have.

I know the non MMCS has the face plate and the head unit part so they may have a similar thing with the MMCs and you will probably need both if it does.

Thanks a ton! How could I forget the 30gb hard drive!! All this time I heard it is expensive because of 30GB drive!!

I am now searching since the past 2-3 hours of getting one from ebay. They are chinese but they are half price of 400$ and have the nav built in.

The mmcs - i guess has an attachment for nav- which i was told would cost me extra money! 1.)Is it right- that there is some extra attachment?
2.) Whats the disadvantage of buying these 400$ stuff? Are thet low sound output and sound quality?

It's expensive because it's OEM. Everything OEM is expensive for no good reason.

I just mentioned the HDD because it's something I know the stock HU doesn't have I am sure there are other electronics in there (like a GPS receiver and tuner, processor, etc) that aren't in the stock unit as well.

I have one of those Chinese units as well and it works OK... I have had many of them and they are all pretty bad interface wise and they have their quirks but as you say they are half the price. If you are willing to live with the downsides they work fine.

Sound quality is alright, you loose your voice control if you had it and the factory Bluetooth stuff... Also on mine I get no sound in AUX, so I have to keep the car running to listen to music but I almost never have my car in AUX anyway.

My only word of warning is you may need an additional adapter for your Rockford system. The amp may not come on for you without the CAN bus box or additional hardware. I got the one with the CAN box but it ended up costing me like $600.

I've seen some Android units that support a OBD reader for digital dash info and screen mirroring from your phone and other neat stuff and have a capactivie screen but I am not ready to drop more money on a new system at this point.

Thanks a lot dear for all the detailed information.

I totally agree with you on the downsides of these Chinese units, the sound quality will never match the original. They say its 150-180W which is no match for the 650W rockford.

But i see some models on aliexpress.com which say they are "rockford ready". They show in the picture different kinds of cables, which I guess would be the interface.

For me the main purpose is the reverse camera, i have to be very careful in reversing the car and have to streatch backwards. Also the gps would come in handy.

Do you recommend any better ones out of these models, since yoi had so many?

Thanks

Thanks dear for the reply! Unfortunately I am not in Canada now- I am in India, so I guess I cannot use crutchfield's services!Even if they send me it would cost me double the price due to postage and custom duty of 35%. The easiest thing was a mmcs(no canbus/wiring issues) but it is so costly and not available in India. For a 45,000$ car we have not been given a lot of features that other countries have -like rain sensing wipers, auto headlamps, mmcs(even for 2011-12 models).

So Some months back I had to buy an amp from Hollanderparts.com- a compilation of junkyard database in US& Canada. Now it is the mmcs- no junkyard is quoting less than 800$ for mmcs and nav.

I am hunting for mmcs also and I have shortlisted this item from aliexpress for 300$ including shipping. Is this any good?

My 2010 XLS has all those features you speak of except the MMCS.

You can use the crutchfield tool to find the adapters you need and then order them from somewhere cheaper.

Also take a look at this thread: https://mitsubishiforum.com/forum/mi...rket-hu-49181/

The guy successfully installed a Pioneer deck.

If you only want the reverse camera you can get a wireless back up camera and display that plugs into your cig lighter for like $50 and a TomTom GPS for like $80. I think they even sell a little stand alone GPS that comes with a wireless backup camera... These may suit your needs better.

I'll say it again, I can't promise that thing will turn your factory amp on and you may need to replace it with a standard amp or do some other fancy wiring tricks to get it working. You will also need to run a wire to trigger the backup camera.

Any of those Chinese units you are taking a chance with. There's almost no reviews out there on them and you will find little issues with it you will have to learn to live with. If you realize your paying 3 times less for it and are willing to put up with things being a little wrong here and there it should be fine. If you are expecting perfection I would buy the MMCS.

When you install it make sure you disconnect the battery. If you accidentally switch the car on with the hazard switch unplugged it will set an air bag code that can only be cleared by the dealer.

Thanks dear for all the valuable info!

Axxess Mito-02 is the only thing that is required, right? Is that the canbus or is canbus another item?

Mine doesnt have bluetooth control on steering right now.

I like the touchscreen interface, this current radio looks so outdated!

Wireless camera is a nice option. Will go for it!

You are right with Chinese stuff! No idea about reviews, how much it lasts and most important- will the camera work with it!!

I guess finding these items is what i should think about-
1) wires for amp connection
2.) bezel- for stereo fitting
3.) A good player with nav/recerse camera

The chinese seller i talked to about 12 hours back said this is plug and play with outlander 08-11. Has all wires for rockford! It was perfect , but reading your reply I think its better to invest time in finding all items seperately, to avoid a headache later on.

Thanks once again for taking out time to reply!!
