I will have to look up the place where I heard the rumor that it is possible to program the sensor to control the headlights too.
Regardless, you will need another stalk with the Auto position on it. The key question is, is there anything else to modify/add and if yes, what?

Yeah, no need for pictures anymore, but we still don't know for sure what is the current role of this damn photo sensor. For sure it doesn't turn the lights on automatically.

On my end, I need to find out if I can install the photo sensor on my LS. It would be interesting to find out how this photo sensor is hooked up - plug 'n play (?). This is the difficult task as I'm afraid to pull the dash parts apart to take a look without risking to break something.

The sensor looks like major surgery, with it being far into the dash.

You can test by covering the sensor completly and watch the dash lights come on.
It doesn't work that way with the US XLS.

yea, I have the sensor on my US XLS. The dash lights are always in mine, and obviously I don't have auto/on headlights as they aren't offered here, so that does leave the question what it is for, I always thought it was for getting the outside temp or something trivial like that, as it I don't have anything that uses the sun. Ah well, I'll be interested to see if anyone figures it out, maybe the manual says something?

Hi all,

Did anyone find out what the sensor is for.
I have one in my Aussie 07 Outlander XLS and am intrigued.

I had my car in for the windscreen wipers (recall) repairs yesterday and asked the Mitsu guy what the sensor was for.

He said it was the immobilizer warning light (for thieves) and that it flashes on and off, I asked him why it wasn't flashing while we were watching it, he said you can see it better at night.

Not sure what to think.
