Owned a 2004 CR-V from new (nearly 60K miles). Only cost over and above regular servicing was an O2 sensor. I consider the CR-V bullet-proof.

Only done 2K miles in the Outlander so can't comment on long term reliability. So far no problems though.

I own 2 Hondas and the Outlander. The Honda might have a little better reliability, but the warranty on the Mitsubishi is much better. All brands have some issues, even Honda with things like the notoriously short life of the rear brakes on some of their vehicles. My Outlander hasn't had any significant problems for the past 4 years. And I felt like it had a lot more features for a lower price than the CRV.

In the end I think it comes down to which one you like to drive.

I subscribe to Consumer Reports and in their December issue that I just received the top 3 small SUV's in reliability are: 1. CRV 2. RAV4 3. Outlander

All three are recommended buys by Consumer Reports.

i had by experience 2003 CRV, and now a 2008 mistubishi, and prefert the mistubishi.
And i dont like the new CRV styles
They are both very reliable vehicule, Mistubishi have more power and fun to drive then the CRV.
