Default Retrofit Factory Rails?

Hi all,

I just purchased a 2014 Outie with a bare roof. It has the four hard points for fixed crossbars, but those points are unreasonably close together. I cartop a 14' Laser (sailboat), and I can't balance that on two crossbars that are only a few feet apart. I was surprised to see how few off-the-shelf solutions there are to this issue. Rails would allow me to place crossbars farther apart. Does anyone know whether I can attach factory rails to the car if I can find them at a junkyard? I've done this with previous cars I've owned, but I'm a bit wary since the only place I can see to attach the rails would be the four attachment points made for the crossbars; there are no hard points near the liftgate for the back of the rails.

I'm guessing this won't work, but that leaves me pretty frustrated. A useable roof for cargo hauling is one of the main things I want out of a vehicle.

I have converted one from 2nd generation Outlander to fit the Outlander Sport/RVR/ASX
The description of the adaptation is found in post #875 here:
Roof Rail adaptation (from Outlander II)
You may try something similar. Good luck!
