I own a 2007 Outlander XLS V6 which seems to have a very rough idle whenever the engine is cold. The rough idlecreates a rather pronounced vibrationthat is transmitted to the body of thevehicle and through the steering wheel. If I put the car in neutral, the vibration is qwelled somewhat. This problem wasn't something I noticed when I first bought the vehicle.

Are othersexperiencingthis same problem? V6 engines are suppose to be smooth.

how cold are you talking? are you quite a bit below 0? or do you just mean when your first starting the engine and the temps are above freezing?

 

I live in Southern California so thankfully there isn't any freezing weather here. I'm referring to when the engine is started for the first time in the morning or the engine hasn't been running for hours. The engine is "cold", meaning not warmed up yet.

 

that is fairly strange then. i know when its pretty chilly out that the vehicle can get the shakes fora minute or two while it warms up, at least my other vehicles have had that. but to be in that warm climate and have it happen is strange to me. have you spoken to the dealer service desk about it?

does the engine seem to be hunting at all as well?

 

Yeah, that's been my experience as well. I haven't spoken to the dealer yet as I wasn't sure if the V6 in other Outlanders were also doing the same thing. I noticed there's a TSB for "rough idle" on this website which could apply to my situation.

What do you mean by "hunting"?

hunting when you are in idle, it jumps in rpm's. your rpm guage wil actually look kinda like its bouncing from 900rpm - 2000 rpms bouncing up and down as if you were taping the accelerator repeatedly.

 

No problem with rough idle here in Colorado. Had the Outie for a year and a half.

 

There isn't any rpm hunting. As the engine gets warmer, the rpm does drop as it should.

 

only thing i can think of is have the rough idle tsb applied
