Default Should I be pissed at my dealer or what?

I recently order the Fog kit from mitsupartsman.com and have the dealer install it.

well when I called, they quoted me for $150 to install the kit and everything. So I went ahead and dropped my car off for a few hours. After those hours they called back asking $500 b/c of the labor and since they figured its much work? (removing the grill, bumper, ie..)

So I got charged for the labor that they remove the OE DRL lamps and the kit wasn't installed but of the work...for $149.23 I had to pay that amount. they had to reinstall it. and called me back. I decided not to pay for that so they had to reinstall the OE DRL.

I was so mad..Now are they suppose to charge me that kind of bullcrap since it was an incomplete installation? Or its suppose to be no charge since they oringinally quoted me $150 and then $500 afterwards but still charged me $149 anyways since my cars been worked on...

I paid by credit and should I open a dispute?

I assume you didn't get the $150 quote in writing. Dispute the credit card charge and talk to the service manager. If he/she can't resolve it to your satisfaction, talk to the regional manager for mitsu.

Here's the argument I would use. Your dealer is supposed to be the expert on installing this kit since they have access to all the tech manuals and should know what's involved. If they didn't reference those manuals and guessed at the labor hours involved in the install and then once they started the job realizedit would it take more hours to complete thats not your problem.

Its not like they were trying to diagnose a problem and didn't know how long it would take to find it. This should have been a straight forward install and they should have known what was involved before they started the job.

They must have been way off on that quote. I also bought the fog light kit. I took a look at what was involved with installing it, and decided to call my local mitsu shop to ask them how much to install. They quoted me 350.00. In the end, I did the install myself.

The quote was done on the phone. One of the guy told me $150 to install. There was no writing involve. But they did charged me 149.23 and I have the invoice still.

Thanks jake and adam!

I couldn't even think what I am going to say tomorrow when I go back to complain about it. Now I have an argument.

Ya I was looking at it and it looks simple to install it if your mechanically inclined.

Some of the panels can be a challenge to put back in, to be honest. But at 500$, I'd rather do it myself.

When ever I leave my car at the dealer they make me sign the quote for what ever they will be doing. The rule are different depending on where you live, but around here there is a limit on how much more they can charge if they make a mistake, I think that it's around 20%. unless it's a job that requires exploration, i.e. they can't tell you ahead of time how much it will cost to repair the car, so they give you a baseline of how much you will pay in order to find out how much it will cost in the end.
In your case they should have known exactly how much work was involved, since the installation of the OEM fog kit must be very well documented.

when it comes to the legality of the charge it would be legal. quote are only an estimate. and it says right there on a written quote that the actual charges may differ and that this is only an educated guess. pretty much everyone that will give you a written quote will have that in writing in the fine print. it covers their asses.

as far as the quote is concerned, its insane and i would have raised a red flag to say whys it so cheap.

I was thinking of doing that myself and after going over the installation manual twice, it doesn't look like much work, sure it may take you 1 or 2 hours but I do not see it being a $500 job. However, my local dealer did quoted the installation to be around "$350". However the salesman who sold me the car told me to bring the car in while he is working and he will get them to do it for $300 or less. I am still thinking of doing it myself, maybe after the winter...

mightyOUTTIE, I am so sorry and appalled that you had such a bad experience at your dealer. your original quote of $150.00 was reasonable and if they decided to change that quote, thenyou had a right to decline without being charged anything!
You need to speak to the service manager and get your money back or your foglamps installed.

it’s a dealer fit kit.

ask to see the manufacture manual this will tell them what labour time per hour man to do various repair jobs and what to charge, like how long does it cost in man hours to removeand refit the head gasket.

sound like they are saying its $135 to fit the kit but after fitting they saying done the job but now we need to charge $200 to re-fit the bumper

They cannot charge you if no work was done. Phone Mitsubishi HQ a verbal contract is a law abiding contract, they told you what time to bring the car in and you wanted fog lamps fitted and the fog lamps were mitsubishi part numbersso yes it’s a contract
this is amain dealer they should know better!!
