These do come on the 2008 and later XLS. Only early 2008 models didnt have this piece yet. So I'm assuming that this is your issue

tdford, If you click on the small pictures, the header of the page says "2008 Mitsubishi Outlander SE" not XLS. I don't think the chrome is on any XLS. Also the written description doesn't mention the chrome at all.

The US version. Yes I know that those are pics of a SE (Special Edition). Who knows, the grey one pictured has does have18' wheels, silver roof rails, chromeextdoor handles,FAST key,bluetooth, nav and leather. Thats pretty much a XLS...
It says in the article that SE trims is only availabe in the 2.4L engine. And it does say that the SE trim has Chrome ext door handles and sills. All I got to say is if they are going to have a luxury piece like that why wouldnt they put it on the XLS models which they call sport/luxury?
We have talked about this piece (chrome door sill) before, you can order it through online oem part stored, but its like around $200 per side.
