03 lander with 180k. Something under the hood is shaking when I hit a bump or rough patch of road. It sounds to be directly in front of the driver seat close to the firewall. Not a loud banging sound, it is more of a shake and shudder. Has a big sound and feel to it. While all sounds are hard to describe, this has a shudder sound a feel to it. It happens then slows quickly and stops. Driving on a smooth road it does not happen.

I've looked under the hood many times and nothing is obvious.
I don't feel it in the steering. When the clunking is happening there is no shimmy or shake from the wheels. There is no excessive wear on either of the front tires.

Thinking it was the engine, I changed the front motor mount. Didn't seem to help. Am planning on changing the read mm next but wanted to ask for ideas first.

 

do you feel the clunk in the seat, pedals, or steering wheel?

I've had a loose shock make some interesting clunking in the steering wheel.
Ball joints and axle bearings can be checked by jacking it up from the lower arm and seeing if there is movement 6-12 or 3-9.
