To me the calipers sound like something rubbing, but could be mistaken for metal flexing.

Well, the strange thing is that when I put it into drive then release the brakes I can coast halfway down my street and it won't make the noise until I specifically touch the gas pedal.

That being the case its not the calipers. Will listen on my ES to see if I get same noise when pressing gas pedal.

Hi All:

If you hear a clunk on the first drive of the day it is the ABS resetting...

It will only happen once in the morning when you first start the car and drive ....

That might be it

I paid more attention to it today

It actually does it everytime after the car is shut off and then restarted

Would it possibly reset each time?

I just looked in the owners manual

It says it will emit a whining sound from the engine compartment when driving immediately after starting the engine

I don't know if I would really call it a whining sound though

Are you still under warranty? If so take it to the dealer.

IT is the ABS resetting it will happen every time the outlander is shutdown and restarted again when you reach 3mph. I discover that one as I got my XLS for a checkup by the dealer last year when I bought it and they changed the wheels bearing as mitsu had a tsb for that but after talking to Mitsubishi Canada they actually discovered that it was thethe ABS resetting itself so it's completely normal Mitsubishi Canada said there is no need for repair!
