Default Switching to sport shift while on D

I don't know if this will hurt the outtie so heres the situation.

When I was driving on the freeway in D I then move the lever gear to thesport shift mode while still driving.

Am I suppose to stop the car then switch to the sport mode or is it ok to do that?

You can switch from D to sport whenever you like.

You didn't do any damage, and I am pretty sure that the Outtie has some kind of mechanism to not allow you to go into the wrong gear (at least I think it has this protection) which might damage your vehicle.

Downshifting to allow for engine braking will not hurt anything other than your fuel mileage unless you over-rev the engine. I'm not sure if the Outlander has over-rev protection for that type of scenario. But, with such great brakes, why not use them?

no it dont use more gaz, because the i read on the multi information meter that that dont use any gaz.
you only use the gaz when you press the gaz.
when you down shift that only use the pressure from the engine to brake you.
and that is the best brake you can ever use

But I would rather wear out the brake pads and not the automatic gearbox.

What are you mean "sport shift mode" ?
Two alluminium pads on steering wheel or automatic gearbox in left position from "D" ?
But, with such great brakes, why not use them?
thats good idea but not for mountains. In some situations like 2-3km descent - "great brakes" mayoverheat. That is normal. Using engine forslow down a caris more effective.

If you use the paddles in standard 'D', it will still shift.

The Outtie is smart enough not to let you downshift if it will over-rev...besides there's a fuel cutoff once you hit the redline, which are set conservatively anyways
