Default Tie rod boot question

Hey all,

This is just a general question.

When replacing an inner tie rod, does the boot that goes over the knuckle have to be clamped on BOTH ends? I know the boot must be clamped at the end closest to the steering rack, but I'm talking about the smaller end close to the tire. I just had a mechanic tell me new boots today are made to fit snug on the tie rod end and eliminates the need for a clamp however I can't find that info anywhere?

Thoughts on this?

Thanks all,
Dave

Default Clamps vs Form Fitting Rubber

While that may be true and gee I just love engineers that never work on cars, but wouldn't it just be easier to put on two, inexpensive clamps to ensure you don't have to deal with a greasy mess later on?
