Torn CV Axle Boot

Torn CV Axle Boot
Hi, i have a 2012 Outlander SE front wheel drive with about 123,000 miles. The right side inner CV axle boot is ripped. Has anyone replaced theirs? And if so, how difficult is it to do? I am pretty handy as i have done other work similar, but on rear wheel drive trucks. Also, the solid bar that leave the transmission on the passenger side, is that a half shaft? I believe that i would only need to replace the CV axle and not the half shaft.
If anyone had a writeup or a link to a video for the right side CV axle replacement that would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
John

Hi, I had to replace one outer axle boot on the left and one inner boot on the right.
I didn't do it myself, but my mechanic changed them in a few hours. As I remember, the left inner one was harder to replace.
Sorry I can't help with more detailed info

Not really too bad. Just like any cv axle. Remove wheel and disconnect knuckle at control arm. Pull knuckle off axle and move aside. Use pry bar to pry cv axle out of tranny....you may loose some fluid...have some extra on hand. Reinstall in reverse.

I was able to complete the work, it took about 2.5 hours. Getting the lower control arm separated from the steering knuckle proved especially challenging. I ordered the part from rock auto as no auto parts stores here carry them and shipping charges apply when ordered from them. Having a tie rod end separator was invaluable for saving the dust boot.
