Default Towing???

I have a 2009 XLS with the 220 HP 3.0L. I use it to tow a 2,100 lb pop up trailer, and aside from the constant shifting going up big hills, I can't even feel the trailer behind me.

I am looking at up-grading to a Starcraft 176RB hybrid trailer that has a GVWR of 3,500 lbs. It is with in the tow rating for the Outlander but I have read on several RV forums that I would be stupid to tow a hard wall travel trailer with a small crossover.

Does any one use their 6 cylinder Outlander for towing a larger trailer and how do you find it?

If any one has put a weight equalizer hitch on the factory hitch let me know the brand too.

I just pulled a cargo trailer rated for 3,500lbs to move my brother to his new place. It was loaded to the ceiling (60% front/40 back weight in the back), and let me tell you...if I wouldn't have had a raised hitch, it would have dragged here and there. It was def. too much weight for the poor Outlander. The V6 was strong enough to pull it up even steep hills, but the weight just pulled it down way too much.

The second trip we took, we used my dads Ford350 with a class V hitch. His truck lowered maybe 1cm when we hooked it up!

I was told that a load equalizing hitch will solve that problem. I'm glad you found it had lots of power.

I tow that weight with the 4cyl without any problems. The longest trip was 2000ks (1300miles) I use a generic 2 bar level ride which helps a lot but I intend to put air bags in the springs.
