Um, So I ripped off my rear mudflap

Default Um, So I ripped off my rear mudflap

ok,

Long story short my mud flap on the rear passenger side is hanging by a thread (i have a 2009 outlander). It is pitch black out but I can tell there seems to be two plugs or screws that are still in the mudflap (sticking out the back of it), just not attached to the vehicle. Do these just snap back in a hole or something or did I rip the whole screw assembly out? Il'l tackle it in the morning....

Just guessing that they are nylon push pins, If they are not torn up too bad, you might be able to reuse. New would be better. If dealer does not have, Fastenall carries a line called AUVECO, and could be ordered.

Yeah, they are some sort of plugs since there are no threads on them. I tried to push them back in, but the mudflap is nowhere near as secure. Mind you, the glue is not working now.

Can these just be plugged back in? They don't seem to be snapping into place or anything....

Here is the installation manual for when I installed my mud flaps.

Page 5 shows the self tapping screws - not plugs - going into the replaced clip holders. You take the plugs out (rotate the inside screw to unlock) then put in the holder and screw into them.
There are 3 connection points. 2 in the wheel well and one underneath.

Sadly I don't know if a hardware kit exits or you have to purchase the whole set. I'd be interested to know if a hardware kit exists.
Two sided tape can be picked up at most auto parts stores - be sure to clean the area you'll be taping and on the flap too once you get the old tape off with a solvent.

I'm a little disappointed in how flimsy the back wheel panels are that these flaps attach to.
Changing lanes on slushy roads it feels like the back of the car is going to fall off when large amounts of heavy snow/slush hit the flaps. The one on the drivers side is worse - not sure if the passenger side muffler firms the panel up or not.

Hey,

Thanks for that manual. It appears that I pulled the screw grommets out (with the screws in them)out of the frame. So basically look at the last picture and imagine the screw grommets on the screws when they are in the mud flap not attached to the frame.

Now like I said, they are pushed back in the best I can do, but they are not nearly as tight. There is no adhesive working since it was ripped from it.

I guess my question is how did you install the screw grommets since I am going to have to try and put those back inseparately and then screw the mudflap back on (at this point without any adhesive)

If I remember correctly the screw grommets (part #6 on page 4) work similar to a drywall plug and have these plastic tabs that expand out and hold against the panel once the screw shank is driven into them.

So I'd guess either your tabs that secure the grommet have broken off the grommet itself or the body panel hole they go into was damaged and there isn't anything for the tabs on the grommet to catch against.
