Default What is this component under my brake master cylinder?

I have a 2003 Mitsubishi Outlander XLS non-abs front wheel drive. I'm about to replace the brake master cylinder, but I noticed there is a component that screws in to the bottom that is in between the flare nut and the brake master cylinder. It looks like a proportioning valve? Can anyone tell me what this component is?

Yup. It's a brake preportioning valve.

today I attempted to bench bleed the master cylinder.

one of the valves would not let fluid through unless if was slightly lose.

I've seen videos of the adjustable proportioning valves, but these do no appear to function the same way.

I still put it in my Outlander to see how it would fair.

my brakes still feel like they have a dead zone before engaging.

my foot goes to the floor when braking. I do brake okay, but brake fade sets in quick.

new -

1) master Cylinder
2) Proportioning valves
3) Dot 4 Brake Fluid
4) front calipers (lubed all metal on metal parts such as guide pins)
5) new brake line hoses (stainless steel from HEL)
6) I've bleed the system more times than I care to count.

guys, what am I doing wrong?
