Cool What typeof oil should I use?

We bought a used 2006 Outlander from a Ford dealer and they did all their required dealer maintenance. I do not know the past history on the maintenance with the prior owners. I hear this vehicle should only use Full Synthetic Oil, not blended. It didn't come with an owners manual. We took it in to a quicky oil change place when it was time and they charged $26. At that price I don't think they did a Full Synthetic. Assuming many of the past oil changes were not Full Synthetic, can I start using it or does it rally matter if I use petroleum based oil?

Thanks!

David

I'll let you make your own conclusions.

This is an engine that has used conventional oil for 45k miles.

The owner then cleaned the head completely, and ran it another 45k using synthetic. This is the result:

I know which one I'd rather have....

Now if your question is does it matter switching between the two? Absolutely not, that's a myth.

Amsoil. Yessir, that's the stuff. But a little excessive for this vehicle.

Thanks for the info Sebba,

I was planning on using Vavoline or Castrol Full Synthetic. That would be ok right?

You mention Amsoil, is that because you are a dealer?

Thank you!

No Amsoil is generally the best. I'm not a dealer, and I don't think the other guy above me is.

Out of those two you mention, I'd use Castrol. I personally use Mobil 1 in my car.
