What's your gas milage?
My wife gets bout 500kms to a tank but most of that is highway driving. The best that the dashboard gauge gets to is about 9.0 litres/100kms. I saw it go to 8.0L/100 once but its never happened again since.
I think that they drink a lot more than they should.

The best I got so far from my 2009 outlander is 420 km before I got the refill sign on the dashboard. Not sure if I should be satisfied with it or not? Is this normal mileage for SUV like mine? Is 4 cylinders by the way.
You really need to be looking at how may litres you are filling up with, "from a tank" means nothing as one person's "fill" can be completely different from another's.
The litres/100km (or mpg) display is a pain in the @r$3 in that it always resets after 4hrs of stopping, no matter whether you set it to manual reset. I ONLY want it to reset when I manually reset on fill, so I can see a figure for that fill-up's usage, but no, you only ever get that day's driving, so it's manual calculation time.
2012 XLS, 4cyl CVT, haven't had it for very long but we appear to be averaging about 10l/100km (23mpg) for general mixed driving (suburban / city), for freeway cruising I've seen it sit at about 7.8l/100km (30mpg)
For comparison, my previous Magna (V6 auto wagon), of about the same size, would get 12-13l/100km for the suburban runs, and be lucky to sneak under 10l/100km for the freeway runs.

2012 GT-V6, 6sp auto, combined city and highway, I get 23.0 MPG. Recently took a trip to Indianapolis. Filled up the day before we left for home, and put on about 30 miles. Made it home on 1 tank of gas. Total was in th eneighborhood of 380 miles.
After 18,000 mi, the engine is finally broke in. Mileage improved some what after the 18000 mark.

I'm using "regular" unleaded (91RON). I used to like E10, but it's not the same as it used to be around here, used to be 95RON and 4c a litre less, now it's 91RON and 2c a litre less; doesn't work out either financially or performance-wise.
I don't know if the 4cyl (or V6) Outlander has a knock sensor, so don't know if it can adjust timing to suit various fuels.
Interesting to note the octane differences around the world
