Wierd temperature display?

Are you saying at the moment she was turning the key, or in the case of fast key pushing the start button, she saw the line 3/4 to H, and then a second or two later once the Outlander was started the display returned to normal? If that's the case I wouldn't worry about it.

The gauges and warning lights most likely go through a self test when you start the vehicle so what you see for that second or two isn't important. If a warning light/message stays on once the vehicle is started, or the temp gauge goes up to H and stays there, then you have something to worry about.
