Default Would you buy a high mileage gen2 2.4 Outlander

Hi All,

My first post here, I am from NZ and need a 7 seater with the ability to go off the beaten track. The Outlander ticks all the boxes.
As most of you know, NZ has a lot of cars coming in from Japan at quite reasonable prices.
I found a good looking Pearl White gen2 2006 Outlander with the Rockford system in good condition for what I would consider to be a reasonable price - $9990 - paid a $500 holding deposit as the car was still in transit, only thing that is now starting to churn around in the back of my head is that it has 178k km's on the clock.
The dealer is throwing in a 1 year warranty.
The reason why I am considering this deal is that this dealer is willing to trade my old car, which some other dealers does not seem interested to do. Apparently a 2003 VW Bora 2.0 is not a good seller and according to them they are problematic. Had not trouble with mine, but its my word against theirs.

So, my question then,
would you buy this Outlander,
what is the expected life of a 2.4 Outlander,
what is the highest milage Outlander on this forum if we know?

Hi MB I am also in NZ and have a 2010 NZ Outlander that was purchased for me. If I had to buy one I would happily buy an imported version as I still believe they are finished off that little bit better with gadgets.

At 10k that is a good price and even at higher km's that wouldnt bother me a great deal. If they are looked after I would say you should still get many years of happy driving.

If your import has the tv screen rockford system, there is a conversion cd that you can buy on Trade Me that will convert the Jap to English. It will remove the GPS side of it because there is no fix for that yet.

Hi HuggyNZ,

Thank you for your positive feedback, I have seen the CD on Trademe, a bit expensive for what it does, but then again, not as expensive as ripping out the nice MMCS unit and having to fit an aftermarket unit and struggling to get everything working again.

Cheers

I have a 2007 with a 3.0L engine. Up to 194k miles / 312k KM just doing correct maintenance like clockwork. It has been a good vehicle for me. I can't say what the 2.4L does, but haven't really heard of any big issues.

Thank you,

This is encouraging, I've not seen much complaints about the 2.4, they seem to be pretty robust. hopefully there is a service manual in the glove box that might give an idea of how the car was being cared for. Holding thumbs.

I recently picked up a 2010 Outlander 2.4L ES AWD with 166k miles for only $3700. Had 1 owner and runs and drives good. Im hoping this car lasts over 200k miles with proper maintenance.
