I'm new here. I've had my Mirage for about 3 years now. I got it with just over 100,000 miles. so far, it's done exactly what I need it to do. But now it's giving me a problem. Nothing to keep the car from running though. It's the fuel gauge. I searched the forum, but couldn't find anything. So, I'm hoping someone can help me.

What happens is I can fill my tank up. It will read full. I drive 30 miles and the hand has already gone down to half a tank. Then, it will go back up. Yesterday, the hand was between half a tank and a quarter of a tank. Now, it's on empty. And it just keeps moving up and down. Sometimes, it stays in one spot. Then, it will go all the way to empty before coming back up.

Friend of mines who works on cars says i should replace the fuel level sending unit. Autozone is telling me my car doesn't have that. Instead, i may need to replace the fuel pump. The dealership doesn't know what my car came with, and wants to charge me $95 to look at it.

Help!!!!!!
