Hey y’all. I am new here so I’m posting my question under the newcomers page. Let me know if I’m in the wrong spot. I have an 05 Montero Limited, 191k miles. I got this thing 10 months ago and have been dealing with the same issue this whole time. The car goes limp when I’m going up an incline and pushin the pedal about 70% down. It sometimes happens when going 40mph on a regular street but 9 times out of 10 it’s on the highway or going up a steep hill. The code that always gets thrown when it goes limp is P2138, problem with throttle pedal position sensor. It has a new, yet original model, sensor now. And it still happens. The ECU and throttle body are both after market. Multiple mechanics say they’ve heard that this specific model needs authentic parts because the electrical system is picky (for lack of a better term). The sensor is calibrated. I’m wondering if I should bite the bullet and get an original throttle and ecu or if there’s something I’m missing. I can’t find anything online regarding the issue. The car is in great shape other than this annoying problem. When it goes limp, I just turn it off for 10 seconds and then it’s back to “normal”. I can’t rely on this thing for traveling though and it gives me anxiety every time I’m on the freeway. It doesn’t happen after a certain rpm, or at a certain speed. It is usually going up steep hills and when it’s trying to match the right gear, and probably something with how the sensor is getting info the ecu, is my guess at least. There’s no corrosion and the wiring looks fine and everything under the hood and beyond is great says multiple mechanics. On here to see if anyone has any insight.
