Question 6G72 rod bearings

Hi, I'm working on an '02 Galant GTZ 3.0 V6 with 208,000 miles. I'm trying to get away with not removing the block from the vehicle. This started as a water pump/timing belt job. I let the cam slip and bent a valve. While there I figured I'd address the oil use issue and re-ring it. After honing the cylinders I'm down to the rod bearings. Have some light scoring in the rod bearings and will replace them. I really do not want to yank the crank. Anyone pulled the crank with the block in the vehicle? Anyone change rod bearings w/o changing main bearings? BTW, my main bearings look good.

you ideally want it upside down to do the crank bearings, helps with torquing them up right too.
YFS it could be done, but why.
