I have a 01 Montero Sport. I have had an alternator issue since the first of the year.
I Jan had to replace the alternator as well as the battery.
Well now it seems that every 3 weeks or so, my battery and brake light come on....and well, it seems to be the alternator.
I on my third alterntor from Advance Auto parts, and today, battery and brake light came on. This time I notice the smell of HOT insulator, such as the wiring in the alternator.
Each time I have replaced the alternator per specs.
Is there somthing I am missing. It seems the after market alternators are not up to the job.
It would appear if I had a short....it would show sonner than 3 weeks.
It looks like the alternator just wears out after this time period.

Anyone have any ideas or suggestions!

Well since you keep replacing alternators, sounds like you have a possible ground issue.
