Default Hello from Edmonton, AB

hey guys and gals...
new mitsu owner, but not new modding...

she's a 97 Eclipse GST and has a lil bit over 78K on her... BUT was driven really hard!!!!
i figgured i'd save her fron the previous owner who is a sales guy at the ford dealership i work at.
she came in on a flat bed and was "slammed" to the point where shes was about 3" off the ground !!!
anywho... he went to the service manager and was asking for advice on the car at which he was sent to see me about the car.
wheni asked what is wrong with it i was told that he didnt know and the car was at 6 different shops and no one could figgure it out!at this point i was a bit weary and he was not even thinking about selling it. a couple of days go by and as usual the shop was just packed with work, he aproaches me and asks me if im interested in the car. At this point being new in the city ( about a month ) and needing a vechicle i said iw ould if the price was right. After a bit of hagling on the price we made the deal and bought her as is for $3000. went to the general manger and told him whats going on and he called accounting and they cut him a cheque for the $3000.
now for the fun part... whats wrong with her ????
so i pushed her in with the help of a coleague and after a good chug of the iced tea can, i went on.
fuelpressure - check, timing - check, compression - check, spark - no go ...
ok it could be 1 or both of the culpriths for this, but even easier... the fuel injectors pulse, sowe have a working cam sensor
after grabbing the scope my diag is correct and have a cam pulse but not a crank pulse... HA !!! gotcha !!!
so i proceed to start pulling things apart to see if the sensor is toast or is it something else.
what were thenthinking when they designed those timing covers ?? i mean wow ... that was a pain... and i mean it .. LOL
anyways... i finally got the covers off and start looking around, and what d i see ???
the clip the was holding the harness to the block has came loose and the wires got cut by the idler pulley .... so i pull the sensor out and quickly sother it and heatshrink the wire toss it back in and .... she runs like crap, but SHE RUNS !!!
Great !! now what about that slipping clutch ??? WHAT ??? the clutch is slipping ????
ohh great ( slight pause with a lot of swearing ). ok, well... lets leave that for tomorow. time to go home, i thought to myself.
next day i drive her in and buddy ran into the shop and was asking me what was wrong with it. so i told him and he was just shaking his head and tellingme about his horror storries about all these shops that the car has been at and nothing has been accomplished but wasted his time and money. so i ask him whats going on with the clutch and he said he has a replacement that he will let me have for free along with an air filter the he claims got stolen at one of the shops the car was at.A couple of days latter he was flagging me down and handed me an exedy clutch kit at which i was quite surprised. so that day after work i proceded to pull the transmission out which on the FWD is quite easy. aboutand hour latter the trans is out and im lookin at the old clutch.
hmm ... somethin is not right here... cluth seems fine, master and slave cylinders have been replaced.. hmmmm ....
ok well since its out im gonna repalce it anyway. so i wrap up the flywheel and got it ready to have if shipped out in the morning to the machine shop. next nite i start putting everything back together, and everything wen smooth and had the car running in about an hour and a half! oh wait but whats that !! the clutch is not dissengaging !!!
ok bleed the system and after a brief test i notice that theres barelly any travel in the slave cylinder. hmm theres gotta be an adust ment for this so i climb under the dash and start poking around and then i see the adjustable push rod for the clutch master .. HA !!!
a couple of seconds and a 12mm wrench and shes dissengaging and now shes not slipping either .. awesome.. now why is it running so rough ???after a bit of looking i dont see anything and i call it quits for that night as well, but still bothering me went home and started searching on the net. aftera coupleof pages i notice that there were a couple of "funny" things.
next day i took a better look at the MAF and it was gutted as in no honey combs, great. also noticed thet the TB wasnt quite right so i pulled it off and i was on the right track... someon has swapped in the 1G tb and hasnever ported the manifold not the elbow.
as it sits for right now here's what i have fixed / moded:
- fuel pump rewire - fused 8ga from battery to the relay to the fuel pump ( i went about 2" away from the connector ) and new ground as well.
- misc interior work due to rattles and squeaks.
- factory kit was ripped off the clips and was glued held in place by hockey tape so i ordered new clips and re-glued into place.
- factory BOV is damaged ( nipple broken off ) and new greddy rs has been ordered
- re-routed boost reference port from turbocharger scroll to tee off from BOV. a 3 psi gain ... is this true ???
- cat delete and rear muffler delete for now untill proper replacement ( 3" turboback )

other things in the works ...
large FMIC, tripple gauge a-pillar setup ( EGT, Boost, Oil Pressure ), new boost piping from Turbo to IC to TB, GM MAF with Translator, 750's, tubular 4into1 turb header, new larger turbo, high flow o2 housing, 3" downpipe, 3" exhaust, 255lph pump, new pressure reg. and last but not least dsm link to help smooth things out on the tuning side along with an wideband setup.
looking to make about 450whp
she hauls pretty nicely but theres lots of room for improvement.

sorry for the long post but if figgured that the story is always exciting

Im really happy that you have the time to put such care and attention into the car. Your one of the few, and i respect that.

As far as the Greddy Type RS, make sure you recirculate it : )

Lets see pics of this!
