Default Urgent need a manual for MID 144! My Volvo truck died mid-trip

Hey! I’ve run into a serious problem: my old Volvo truck broke down right in the middle of a trip. According to the onboard system, the issue is with the MID 144 module. The truck doesn’t recognize neutral at all anymore, and I’ve been running around the cab for two hours already trying to figure it out. I suspect the contacts in the main connector might be oxidized, but digging into it blindly in this weather doesn’t seem like a great idea — I might just make things worse. Guys, maybe someone has a detailed manual for this module? I at least need to understand which pins are responsible for transmitting data to the main controller, because going through the entire wiring harness without a diagram is just unrealistic.

Could you advise: after cleaning the connectors, do I need to reset the errors through the menu, or should the module automatically detect that the circuit is fine once the issue is fixed? Or is it impossible to get it moving again without service software?

Yes, the MID 144 has a feature that if the data bus connection is broken, it will turn off the engine starting signal automatically, don't you think? Most likely, either you’ve lost power to the unit, or the CAN bus cable running to the vehicle's control module has chafed through somewhere. Take a look at this service manual for Volvo MID 144 - it contains excellent diagrams that make it immediately clear which wire goes where and what its function is. Oh, and you don't have to worry too much about the error codes. When you reinstall the physical connection, the active fault will be archived as the stored faults, and still, you will be able to start the engine. First of all, turn on the switches in the main fuse box once again. Sometimes, just like that, they get burnt out since they are old, and then it gives the impression that there is a highly serious mechanical problem. Godspeed! Man, could you drop me a line later to let me know how things turned out?
