Newest update on the Rio project
All right round 2:
I've been quite busy this past week. Monday kicked it off after work. Ripped both exhaust manifold AND intake manifold off as well as intercooler piping that was in the engine bay. Valve cover removed, air can off, and sensors mostly disconnected.
Tuesday: Head removed, alternator gone, PS pump and bracket pulled, ac/alt bracket removed, battery pulled, water pump removed and motor mounts unbolted from the body, starter removed, oil filter off.
Wednesday: Took a break. My back and energy levels were both shot and work that morning left me exhausted. Guitar Hero 2 for the afternoon lol.
Thursday: Bolts removed from the trans, radiator gone, oil drained, air can out, the few lines that were still connected removed (oil cooler, turbo oil supply line, coolant line). The block has been moved about 1/2" from the trans. It's going to take some work to get the engine to work of the trans. Alot of wiggling back and forth and up and down and I can't manage to do it all by myself.

Well newest update:
Block is at the shop to be decked and bored .020 over. Crank is in for balancing along with pistons and rods. Intake is in for boring to 52mm. Head is in for a 3 way valve job, resurfacing, and cleaning. Old block is out of the car and I removed bearing caps for #2 and #3 rods. #2 was heavily worn but evenly worn. #3 was destroyed. So it DID have a spun bearing and I'm not even sure how I will be getting the bearing off of that crank... I took pics and once I d/l them I'll post them here.

No thanks I'm not risking damaging the crank. These are hard enough to get and if the rest is in good shape (Which I bet it is) then I want to keep it for later use if necessary. Angle grind.... Are you insane?? It's a round surface how can you angle grind something with THAT little clearance? (The bearing is actually flattened and stretched out quite badly. It actually wraped under itself... Looks like the nickle someone left on the railroad track wrapped around the crank).
Well she's FINALLY home and the work has commenced! I got MOST of the parts back Friday and the only thing I am waiting for now is the rods. I have taken some pics so here's what's going on with the Rio. Thanks to TopDawg_43 for everything he's been doing to help get her BACK on the road again. With that being said here are the pics I have as of thus far:
Intake has been ported to match the 52MM TB:

Unfortunately I forgot the camera so I don't have pics of the boxes of parts I had built up and I don't have pics before the block had been started on. Here's how it was sitting as of when I got there this afternoon:
That's Erin in the back playing her Nintendo DS and TopDawg_43 to the right.
Here are a few more shots of the block as it started this afternoon:

After a few hours of work here's what we ended up with:

I also did some other painting. The alt bracket and the motor mounts were both painted silver. Here's the pic of my mech rockers as the silver motor mounts are the ones I painted. (I can't find the pic for the alt bracket at the moment):
