If people don't wear them then it should it at their own discretion...it's like the helmet laws with motorcycles here in Pennsylvania...The riders don't have to wear them anymore if they don't want to but they are taking a risk by not wearing a helmet...I think if you are just cruisin' around town then no need to wear one but if you are doing a decent speed then definately buckle up...I have 4 point harnesses in my Eclipse GS-T and I feel naked without buckling up...They have the "click it or ticket" law in affect here in PA.

Wow, I cannot believe how many sheeple there are...

You actually think "they" really give a rats *** about your safety?? How many kids ride the school bus, twice a day, with no seatbelt...
This law is nothing more than a money maker for townships...

Well, for those who refuse to obey the law, there are loop wholes on the seat belt law, in mass at least. Its not a stoppable offence, you can not be stop just for not wearing the seat belt. So as long as you put it on prior to the stop, you will be fine.

I'm confused, is this really an arguement.

Sure, OK, I'm only 20 years old, but come on!

You are f'ing driving a 1 - 2 ton vehicle. why the hell wouldn't you put on your seatbelt!?

and, ok, lets say that we do get to keep abolish the adult needing seatbelts or one'll get a ticket.
The same rule applied to all others in the vehicle. If you are driving down the road and your passenger isn't wearing a seatbelt, the driver will be the one getting the ticket. but now, that passenger is an adult. Do they get the choice to wear a seat belt? No they shouldn't, for bother their saftey and yours.

You crash, they go through the windshield, you get sued. it wont matter if you say "well it is their choice" cause you're the driver. so there goes all your hard earned money on court cases and such. so then what's the point? either pay...what....300 bucks? or pay a **** load on court cases?

so ya, keep the damn law. it's not worth fighting it, personally.

i have been driving for 11 years now, and many of those years were spent in a 400+ hp car, and other than track time, i never, EVER wear a seatbelt. it should not be anyones decision whether i wear a seatbelt or not..

whats next?

i have to have one of those rubber shower mats to make sure that i dont fall? you know, people fall in the shower and get hurt..

how about we require EVERYONE to wear sunglasses, because glare can cause accidents...

or maybe we all have to wear helmets. a great many fatal car accidents are due to head injuries..so why not require everyone to wear a snell95 or better helmet?

seatbelt laws are NOTHING but a fund raiser for the various municipalities. michigan is hitting the streets hard right now with "seatbelt checkpoints". why not throw in a field sobriety test while were at it? or maybe search every vehicle that goes through the checkpoint? in a car accident, seatbelts can help to limit the extent of the injuries, but ive known people who have been in awful accidents with no belt and been fine. i also know people who have been in very tame accidents WITH their seatbelts on and have sustained severe injuries. ill take my chances without, and when i am going out in my DD with the intent or very high speed driving, i have a race harness, but i havent even worn that in years.

some people are more comfortable wearing the seatbelt, because they have the false feeling of safety. the police want to make the streets safer? seatbelts arent the answer. try getting the soccer moms in massive SUVs who have a cup of crappcino in one hand and the cell phone in the other off the street, but the seatbelt should be the drivers choice. if i get tagged for not wearing my seatbelt sooner or later, it wont make me start wearing one, and ill write my 90 dollar check, and ill tell the officer that i still wont wear a seatbelt. its entrapment to have some cop (who barely has a high school diploma, but DOES have a chip on his shoulder for having been picked on in high school) stand on the side of the road and call ahead tag numbers to another cop down the road in a cruiser to pull me over because it looks like i dont have my seatbelt on. ive already gone through one checkpoint in the middle of the day with no belt on, and i didnt get pulled over..looks like that system works REAL well...who would have thought that someone cant REALLY tell if someone going past at 45mph is wearing their seatbelt?

I agree but personally I don't go without mine as I've been in a couple of accidents that would have put me into the windshield. Let people choose to wear or not BUT as long as I"m in a smaller new car I'll be wearing one. Now my '64 Dodge Coronet I NEVER wear one (Got pulled one day in it the officer tried to ticket me for no belt. I told him "Officer take a good look at this car. This is a 1964 Dodge Coronet. Back in '64 these cars were made with steel, had NO crumple zones, required 8' of hood AND were made without seatbelts. They didn't NEED seatbelts back then. Go look in your book and show me where I'm required to wear a seatbelt in a car made pre '67." He looked at the car again and walked away.) I agree completely with Patrick get rid of the distracted fools that talk and txt on their phones. If they don't wear a headset instant ticket. The ones that do makeup in the rear view mirror and those that eat and drive... Yeah jail 'em all. How many accidents are CAUSED by these distracted drivers?

Actually they're cracking down pretty heavily in the metropolis I live in not just the small towns. If they notice no seatbelt they will FIND a reason to pull you and get 2 for 1. (Thank god for auto belts on the 'quest LOL).
