mabey b/c i dont' always just have racing in mind... i'm personally in the same mindframe as TA. when i was stilll planning on turbo'ing the slow. i was planning on running a 35r twin scoll to push 400whp which i know is excesssive but at the same time it would also ensure a loooonngg lasting turbo life and not too stressfull on the internals. brake busting always helps and if you are reallly a street racer you could always add a 50 shot+ and be good to go. i plan on having the slow for a couple years or even more so it's worth it to sacrafice a little bit quicker times for longer last in the vehicle. imo.
50trim vs 35r is not going to change your turbo or motor reliablitiy. I think 90% of the people who put big *** over kill turbos on a car just to only run the power another turbo can handle only do it just to say yea thats right I got a 35r I can make 600HP it I want. That is just retarded because 50trims smoking 35r's on pump gas is a laugh because the 35r is waiting on 5k worth of lag.
another thing depending on driver style I would lean toward a laggier turbo being more abusive on your motor. Reason why I say that, if you dont spool till 5000 and you just want a short burst your going to need to pull to 6000 or above RPMs (go do that all day long, it is abusive) the 50trim hits full boost at 4k so I want to hit it for a second I dont need to pull 6000rpms to get moving.
BTW the 50trim holds steady power over 8k rpms as FOG was running 475HP and running to 8300 and the chart shows the power not dropping out at that RPM

because a 20G is the same as a 50trim yet looks stock, and spools MUCH faster and makes more tq

I completely understand your thoughts Mike and I agree for the most part. But the question remains, why buy the 20G over the 50 trim if one only wants 400 at the wheels on a DSM? Price. Since a 20G doesn't even come close to the smaller stock turbos, the point of buying a 20g to keep the stock appearance isn't a point at all. Maybe in an EVO, but not in a DSM 
Here's a point on TA's side ... why build a motor when one is only utilizing a portion of its potential? To make sure that the motor does not blow up on the owner. Hell, why build a motor at all? The point is the same really.

TA's thoughts are to keep the motor and turbo all within both extremes of a built motor with room to grow if he so chooses. Why you guys are doggin' on him to get a smaller turbo, I don't know. Perhaps suggest a turbo in the same range that may be more efficient, but to suggest a smaller turbo when he clearly does not want the turbo to max out is just plain missing his point.
