My partner has a T registered colt, all the dashboard clocks have stopped working. We had a friend who is a mechanic have a look, and he seems to thing that whatever has stopped them working is under the dash. So first i think it will be expensive to get an auto electrician to have a look, but my friend says to try and get a second hand dash. I wonder what anyone else thinks. Thanks.

Who are you going to pay to fit a second hand (presumably stolen) dash?

I think find out what the problem is.
Go and find a useful man with a garage, take beer to him, and tell him your problems.

 

Akzle. Why do you waste your time replying with rubish answers, if you can't help someone don't bother replying. It would not be stolen, i would do what other people do and get one from a reclamation yard if anyone has one. What kind of question is that. Who am i going to fit it, obviously not me, i would have to find a mechanic. As i said in my post, a mechanic has looked under the bonnet and can't see any fault, so he is presuming the fault is under the dash. thanks

 

Before you try second hand dash, you need to verify all the power sources ate good. There is very little to go wrong apart from total cluster failure; this is because the cluster as a whole is computer controlled internally, there is limited externally controlled function unlike the base cluster. Verify the fuse and check for power at the cluster. Just set your meter to DC Volts and probes one lead to ground and the other lead to both metal tabs one at a time on the top of the fuses as this will verify both voltage to the fuse and exiting the fuse. Then test your ground. Then test your ground. Also check on the other stranger shaped connector probe between pin and ground to check for resistance again looking for indicating a strong ground (also a Black wire).

personally, i wouldn't be going back to him.

my advice stands:
1- find out if the dash is faulty
2- find out what the actual problem is
3- find a man who knows what he's doing, and get him to fix your problems for the sweet sweet cost of beer.
