Default Launching an automatic

Hey guys, i know this topic has been posted before but i want new ideas to what i already heard. I have a 1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse RS with Short Ram Air Intake, DC Sport Headers and Downpipe, everything else is stock. Now, i race last night against my friends GS and he has a Short Ram Air Intake, a aftermarket muffler, and he killed me. The best thing between the two is that he has a manual and i have an automatic transmission. I was wondering, how to you launch an automatic, i really would like to practice with my car for better launching. One key aspect to my demise is that i was not reving at the time, only he was. Now, how do i rev my engine without movement from the wheels without being in N. Also, what is the perfect launch for an automatic? thanks.

Default RE: Launching an automatic

Coming from a classic RWD car guy, I know you could get "line- locks" which is just a mechanism locking the front brakes until you release them via a relay. So, being cheap I will say try just holding the brake down and keep your foot on the gas until you can gain some RPM's.
I cannot say if it is harmful to your trans or CV's so maybe someone can clarify that point for you.
