Question 2002 Mitsubishi Montero Sport Suspension Replacement / Upgrade

Hi All,

I am looking to replace or upgrade the suspension in my family's 4WD 2002 Mitsubishi Montero Sport. We have had this car for forever and it has been incredibly reliable and taken us everywhere we have wanted to go over the years. Now that it has crossed the 200k mile mark, the suspension (specifically the rear) has become an issue. Almost every time we hit a bump in the road the rear suspension bottoms out and hits the bump stops, making the ride for rear passengers incredibly uncomfortable.

We took the car to our local Les Schwab a few years back and asked them to replace the shocks but that only put a bandaid on the problem. I'm not convinced they put the right shocks back in the car as it has always continued to have the same issue of bottoming out as before.

I got under the car and looked at it the other day and it appears to have rear coil springs in addition to the shocks. I'm pretty sure the Les Schwab didn't touch these and that might be the problem. In my head I'm thinking if those springs are shot and only the shocks were replaced they could have worn out prematurely even if they were the right replacements. The main issue that I'm running into is that it has been incredibly difficult to find information on this car. There's not many of them around on the road and I can't find the information online about suspension upgrades that I have been searching for.

Long story short, I am looking to find where I can buy replacement coil springs and shocks for the rear, and ideally replace the front shocks as well. I've found Bilstein's online that say they will fit but I'm not sure if that's true and I have yet to find any information whatsoever on the rear coil springs.

Thank you for your help,

Zach
