05 Endeavor Limited - sport driving mode
Dumb question but i always wondered how to use the sport driving mode in my Endeavor. Does it become a stick shift at that point? I read the manual but it was kind of confusing

If when you shift into sport mode you can then move it up and down by one notch and have the stick return to the middle it's in "manual" mode. If not it will change the transmission shifting pattern and engine rev pattern to favor acceleration rather than fuel economy and comfort.
If it's the second one and you don't give it lots of gas you probably won't even notice a difference, if you floor it in sport mode you should see a difference in where it shifts.

Then yes. When you shift it into that you can up and downshift manually. It won't let you shift into 1st at 60 mph though, the computer will still stop you from doing anything that could damage the engine or transmission.
You don't need to press the brake or the switch on the gearshift (if so equipped) to switch between drive and sport.
Basically at any time you shift from D into sport and it will put you in whatever gear is appropriate for the speed you are moving at then when you wish to shift up or down you push it to + or -. Each time you move the lever it will increase/decrease gear by 1.
If the speed is above or below a safe gear change the car will deny the change and you will either see a flashing indicator on the dash or you will get a beep to tell you that your change was overridden and the car will remain in the current gear.
If you fail to change gears at the top of the RPM range (redline) the car will cut off fuel (rev limiter) to prevent engine damage and you will hear the engine surging on and off. Some models will automatically up shift if you do this for too long, I wouldn't recommend running the RPMs that high for very long though.
When you have had enough of this you can switch it back to D at any time and it will work normally.
Hope that's descriptive enough.
