1991 ECLIPSE LOSS OF POWER
This doesn't happen all the time, so it is hard to recreate.
When I am driving sometimes I will press the brakes to slow down or stop. I will have a short loss of power (1-2 seconds), where I will lose dash lights, radio, ect. Then everything will come back on. Doesn't seem to matter if I am in gear or not (has happened both ways). I have also been able to idle, increase the RPMs (above 2), take foot off the gas, press the brakes & lose power that way. I have noticed a high whine thru the speakers correlating to the RPMs. But like I say, this doesn't happen all the time.
Rarely I have been unable to start the car, no power what so ever. Wait a little bit & then it starts.
What I have tried already:
Replaced the battery.
Replaced the Starter.
Disconnected the radio.
Disconnected the alarm.
Anyone run into this situation before?
Thanks

It doesn't happen all the time, thats the wierd part. Hasn't happened at all this week.
But when it does happen it is only when the brakes are pressed. It doesn't do it at normal driving or at idle conditions.
Thats also only when I notice the high pitched whine (when it's about to happen). So I know now if I hear the whine that when I press the brakes I will lose power for a couple seconds.

The high pitch whine in the speakers sounds like a grounding issue... Possibly a loose or broken ground? Sounds like it might be arcing in the wire where it's broke and sometime it's just in the right position to break circuit when you hit the brakes but then comes back up when you let up? Just hazarding a guess here.

I'm just going by the whine in the speakers usually that indicates a bad or incomplete ground. So let us know if that helps you at all. Make sure that the frame has a good ground to the battery as well as the engine grounded to the frame.

Ok,
I checked the ground wires this weekend. Didn't notice any frayed wires or loose contacts. Cleaned a couple of the contacts. No problems the last 2 days. We'll see if this did the trick!
