the car has 133k miles on it and the guy who i bought it from said that they had rebuilt it from the bottom up about 10k miles ago. i wasn't at 5k for long, maybe a second or two and when i felt something wrong i let off the gas. i usually try not to beat on it but it happens. if i did melt a piston, which brand should i go with?
i have a feeling that the engine wasn't properly broken-in after the rebuilt.

CP and Wiseco are great companies to look into for pistons

yeah, i bought it from a kid whos 19 and his older brother told me that he had beaten on it ever since. should i just replace just the one piston or replace them all, and go out and buy a 6-bolt and build it up and swap it in after im done with it? since i have a evoIII 16g turbo on it, could it have been the turbo that caused it?

i would first get the engine open to see how much damage has been caused. from there, you can evaluate your options.

whether the turbo could have done it, it could....depending on the size of the turbine inlet. an inlet that is too small can cause backpressure and tons of excess heat, which could cause something like this.

i bet the rings didn't properly get seated since he started beating on it from the time he got the engine rebuilt.

the inlet size is that of a 16g. if that helps.

i have no idea how big that is.

anybody know the A/R of the turbine in a 16G(small or big)?

i think thats a .60A/R so that would not have caused a problem.

could it ave been that i got it real hot and melted the plug and put a hole in the piston?

What engine is in there already? Is it the 4G63? If so then I'd go with a 6 bolt buildup. If you melted the piston then who knows what other damage has been done to the block...

the engine it in is the factory engine from 93.
