93 GS - Annoying Brake Noise (Reverse Only)
#11
2008 GT Same Problem
Purchased late 2009 brand new on lot for over a year. Noise occurs only when backing up slowly and applying light on the brakes. Anyone that has driven a Spyder with the top up knows you backup slowly.
Took to selling dealer later in 2009 and they could not assimilate the noise.
Took to another franchised dealer; sam story. Sent them a audi file from my cellphone of the noise and they thought it was possibly the emergency (hand) brakes. Brought it back to them and it took two days for the noise to appear. They replaced the pads and turned the "rotor" of the brake system.
When I picked the car up after 4.5 days in the shop, the car made the noise descretly 2 times. It was raining; so I gave them the benefit of the dooubt. Got home pulled in the garage and attached is the sound I heard.
The file is an .AMR file that the only "approved" player I can find is Quicktime player from Apple.
Any comments or suggestions, I am all ears. Have filed a case with Mitsubishi and waiting to hear more.

I know on my 93 TSI, in Chicago when it is humid in the summer and the car has sat for a day or so, the rotors "flash rust" and I get a squeal when I reverse out of the driveway with light brake pressure. After that, it is okay. But if you get the squeal constantly in reverse but not in drive, I would suspect that the pads are not worn evenly and need to be replaced but as you said the dealer replaced the pads and turned the rotors....hmmmmmmmm...unless they SAID they did but did not...... Maybe take it to a another shop for another opinion.

The way I solved my "noise" was to put on new rear rotors and premium pads. I also made sure that the rear bearing hub flange ( to which the rotor is on) is clean and smooth. The rotor was not worn beyond the limit, I just figured after 300K, the car deserved new rear rotors.
