Default 94 eclipse question

Hey guys my name is Sam and Im new to these forums. Ill spare a long introduction and get right to my question haha. I found a 1994 2.0L 4g63 non turbo automatic for sale. the guy is asking 2800. it has a rebuilt transmission but needs new brakes (rotors and pads). it appears to be very well kept and theres about 50 papers of religious dealer check ups. ive done some research and found that these are prone to certain issues with the tranksmissions and defective control arms among a few others. basically i would like to know if the car is worth it? i mean what are the odds of me buying it and instead of upgrading it, spend money fixing it??? anybody have 1 and have these probs? or am i just freakin myself out here.

any advice would help as money is tight for me.

also if i do get it i plan on turboing it and converting it to a 5speed. if u can convert and auto to manuel lol im not that sure.

thanks

$2800 for a 2.0 auto non turbo is way too much, you can buy a very clean 2.0 turbo for less. I bought my 90 tsi w/ 92k for only $1800.

Sounds a little high to me I bought my 91 GSX for 2000 with only 89000 miles and only looked like the drives seat had ever been sat in. Mine is an automatic I had to replace the end clutch assemble but no other real tranny problems

Hey thanks for the replies. The reason he gave for the price was the new transmission. Said he wanted his money back. It felt high. Blue booked it and found they go from about 900-2000. ill sit on it for awhile and maybe see if he lowers it.

Also, say he goes down to 2000. Would that still be to high considering i want to put a 5speed and a turbo in it?

Still sounds high to me. I got my 93 2.0 non-turbo 5 speed for 1800. I'd try to haggle him down to 1600 or 1700.

Yes too high for 2k, if you want a 1g turbo just hold out and look for one.

I have to agree with everyone else on this one. Over 2k is asking for too much. The car is old and probably is rusted as hell in a lot of areas. Look for something else if you can. If you really want an Eclipse/Talon of the 1st Gen's then look else where. I bought my 90 Eclipse for 1k with about 120,000 miles on it, I couldn't just let it go. Now I'm swaping the 4G37 to the 4G63T . I'm keeping it FWD, but upgrading the intercooler to a front mount. My only issue right now is getting an AEM Catback Exhuast for a GST. Do your research and see what you else you can find.
