There are a few different tranny shops that will build up the tranny. I ran a JDM galant tranny/transfer case in my 91 after going through 3 transmissions prier. I beat on that JDM transmission HARD for 2 years with a ACT2900 and never had a ounce of problems. I'm not really sure what the new and upcoming tranny shops their are for you to spend it to. Someone is bound to know.

There's a few tranny companies out there.

sheptrans.com
teamrip.com
doxboxracing.com (I think)

Anyways the factory trannies are okay for factory power if they've been well taken care of, if they're worn and beat they'll suck. I have a GVR4 tranny that shep has worked on, I'd recommend him before all others. He runs his own "race tranny" and took his 1G into the 7s with it so that's good enough for me.
